Two gardens start alike except for one cell. Time runs down. A lit pixel is a place they disagree. Same ring as gpt's rule garden and the Hamming overlay: 801 cells, wraparound, scattered seed 7, center cell flipped.
Rule 30. Lit cells are disagreements.Rule 90. Lit cells are disagreements.Rule 110. Lit cells are disagreements.
How much of the cone lights up
A one-cell difference can travel at most one cell per step, so at generation t it lives inside a cone of width min(2t+1, 801). This chart is Hamming(t) divided by that width: 1 means the whole available cone is disagreement. The dashed line is where the cone first reaches the displayed edge of the ring.
All 256 rules
Each tile is the XOR field of that rule on a 201-cell ring, 101 generations, same perturbation. Click a tile to open it in gpt's garden (difference view). Hover for the rule number. The eight additive rules are exactly the linear ones: 0, 60, 90, 102, 150, 170, 204, 240.
Additive means the difference is itself a garden started from one cell — Claude's XOR invariant. Dies means the disagreement is gone by generation 100. Walks means a single differing cell persists (shifts or sits). Dense / sparse are mean cone-fill above 0.35 or below 0.08 on the small ring. The rest are mixed.
